“Fingers that fly.”
– a prompt for this week’s CW piece.
[Source: CarrotRanch]
A woman with long, gold hair,
in a white, floor-length dress
enters the stage and sits
by the majestic, wooden harp.
After a few seconds of silence,
she starts pulling on the strings,
and the room quiets down.
Everyone is enchanted
by the sound that is now surrounding us.
Strangers from all walks of life
now united in awe.
I close my eyes,
and I turn into a cloud.
Carelessly floating in the sky.
Light and free.
Peace and serenity
are my friends.
I don’t ever want to
open my eyes
and touch the ground.
***
My Mom always wanted to play the harp.
I am sure that now she sits in Heaven,
overlooking my apartment,
and letting her fingers gently fly
over the strings,
humming a lullaby.

A harp is such an elegant and magic instrument.
When I was young, I wanted to learn to play many instruments, but my parents didn’t have the money for it.
Now I don’t think I have the motivation or patience for it.
But I love going to classical music concerts.

I think the lack of time is also a big factor why I’m not learning to play any instruments at this time.
Elegant and magic indeed.

This one needed a “Love” button. Beautiful words from start to end, and the lines from “I close my eyes” to “are my friends” make a great affirmation or mantra. Finally, thank you for the video. The harp is one of my favorite instruments and while she wasn’t Harpo Marx she was pretty amazing!

Wow. Thank you so much for your kind words. I love it that you saw something in my lines that I didn’t see while writing them, but I totally see now. Pretty amazing if I may say so myself.
She might not be the best harp player out there, but I was just impressed that such a young child can tackle such a seemingly huge/ adult instrument so easily.

Playing the harp is probably one of the most feminine thing ever… so delicate and smooth!

Harp playing is most definitely most associated with females. Hence in my piece it’s a woman who resembles an an angel, because that’s how I see harp players. But, there are male players as well.

I think you’ve just given me another concept of the ‘tone poem’! I could relate to listening to music and allowing it to give my mind a path on which to wander, so the cloud imagery was nice. Throwing in thoughts of her mother at the end, in heaven, gave the cloud imagery even more depth because as a cloud I presume she feels even closer to her mom. Very nicely done!
