I do agree with this, but in my opinion, free speech shouldn’t be entirely free because then it means unkind slurs are suddenly justifiable, which is not true!
No, saying something does not mean it’s true. It does not mean that there are no consequences. I don’t condone “unkind” words. However, currently, it is SO easy to offend someone that it’s become really limiting. I know my words are often misconstrued as “unkind”, when they really are not meant to be.
Free speech can be uncomfortable. Sometimes it can be rotten to the core, inflicting damage. And yet, it’s needed. To make rules what one can say and not say can quickly turn evil, in which the opposing party can turn you into a criminal for disagreeing with them.
I wasn’t sure where you were going with this as I was reading your first sentences, but you are absolutely correct.

Too bad there is no more true free speech. It is very expensive!!! We are free to speak only if it is speech that the listener agrees with.
