“In 99 words (no more, no less) write a story that is a sketch or about a sketch.”
– a prompt for this week’s CW piece.

Another patient.
“I’m Sergeant Phillips. This is Ivy.” – he announced walking in, and led the blind girl to the sofa.
Ivy was a witness to a homicide, when she was 5 years old. She hid, while her family got brutally murdered.
“Do you want her to sketch the assailant?”
I looked at him wondering how a blind girl could describe, much less draw a suspect.
As she drew, the sketch became apparent.
I slowly looked up at the sergeant, but his gaze was already fixed on me.
“She lost her sight in an accident a couple of years ago.”

I felt like I was watching a clip from SVU 🙂 Loved it.

Thank you. It was harder than I expected to write a full scene in 99 words. I had to cut out quite a bit from my original write up, but I hope to have preserved the essence.

How have you been?

Very busy and at times not so good but holding up. And you?

That’s too bad. I hope it gets better for you.
Very busy here as well. Sometimes better, sometimes worse. Life, right?

Absolutely. Thank you, I’m getting there. Glad to hear you’re busy. Better than an idle mind! How’s the writing going for you? Motivated?

Motivated for sure, but just time is not on my side. I still reply to comments in a timely fashion, but I don’t always post when I want to, and I check out less of other people’s works, which is saddening to me. I thought things would fall into place by now, but I still can’t seem to find the “slot” for blogging.

I totally understand because I’m in the same boat. It’s frustrating…

You should hear these tales parents tell kids nowadays to scare them into submission. They are about some Britchy, who hides behind anything and pranks them so hard that they die of fright.

So much tension packed into your 99-word crime drama. It’s great as a stand-alone but also feels like the beginning of an unraveling murder mystery.

Thank you. 99 words – those were the rules. Had to stick with them.

You always amaze me with such stories. And writing such short ones are so difficult. Loved this 🙂

Thank you so much for the complement. It really is! It had a lot more words when I first wrote it, but had to cut it down to exactly 99. It’s a fun challenge. You should try it sometime.

I do this all the time, and then the ideas fly away, before I can write them down.
