#FridayFeeling

This post is sponsored by Andrea, who thought of me when she saw: “Get that Friday feeling with Crunchie” on her chocolate bar.

Yes, she ate it without sharing it with me. But I am grateful for the wrapper. I mean, a picture of a wrapper.

(Btw, feel free to forward things to me that you think could contribute to my blog posts. I do not guarantee that they will be featured, but I will surely give you credit for it, if I do decide to use it.)

(Btw no.2: If you work for the company producing Crunchie (or any other chocolate snacks that I will mention in this post, please feel free to issue a check to me for the advertising. Alternatively, you may send me a supply of those bars to power me to write other posts like that.)

So back to the topic at hand. I have never had a “Crunchie”, but from the images I could find online, I gather that it is the same/ similar as/ to Violet Crumble (an Australian snack).

Violet Crumble was unlike ANYTHING I have ever had before. Even though at first I was not sure what to think about it, in the end, I really enjoyed it. The texture takes you by surprise, but the taste of honey, wrapped in chocolate makes my mouth water as I write this post.

When I first saw the wrapper, my brain immediately went to “slogans”. The part of me who is interested in marketing and advertising started recalling various catch lines associated with different snacks.

Kit Kat: “Have a break… Have a Kit Kat!” (Worldwide), or “Break time anytime” (US only)

Twix: “Pause like you mean it”, or “Twix, Need a Moment?”, or “Twix and Tea, Happy Together”

Snickers:Hungry? Grab a Snickers!”, or “You’re Not You When You’re Hungry”

Lion: “Hear me roar!”

Obviously, these are meant to influence what we do and what we eat while we do it. I find it interesting when slogans play on our feelings. Suddenly, we feel like CHOCOLATE understands us. It knows we need a break. It knows we are not ourselves unless we eat. It knows what makes us happy. It EMPOWERS us. Helps us be the best we can be.

When I have a taste for a Snickers, and I go to the store, I spend a little longer looking through all the words written on top. Is that a common practice for Snickers outside of the US? It is not like it tastes any different, but I prefer to choose the candy bar that reflects best how I feel, or who I identify as.

Even though I know about marketing hacks, I still fall for the creative taglines when it comes to sweets. Granted, I buy it when I really want to, meaning I would have probably bought it even if the slogan was not appealing to me, but it definitely does not hurt. It helps me feel more attached.

What do you understand by “that Friday feeling”?

  1. I hear ya Goldie.

What do you understand by “that Friday feeling”? Freedom is only a few hours away!!!!

What is your favorite chocolate bar?

No bar, but I am a sucker for some peanut butter cups.

Do you know of any food slogans that speak to you?

“Rice a Roni, The San Francisco Treat, Ding Ding”!

    Happy weekend Goldie.

  2. ‘All you can do is chew’ was the slogan for fruit pastilles which are like a sugar coated fruit jelly sweets. ‘A Mars a day helps you work rest and play’ – Mars are the UK equivalent of Milky Way
English Milky Way were like three musketeers and theirs was ‘the sweet you can eat between meals without ruining your appetite’
My favourite is payday- they don’t need a fake healthy claim to draw me in!

    1. Is Mars really the same as Milky Way? When I tried Mars as a kid, I thought it was a scam. It was TERRIBLE. Like it aspired to be a Snickers, but it never got to be it. I saw no reason why someone would like a Mars. As an adult, I have to admit that on a rare occasion, I do enjoy a Milky Way. 3 Musketeers is good, too. (But don’t they taste similar?)
I know you like paydays, and this is where I get confused, because I don’t like it at all…

      1. English Mars and US Milky Way are very similar. They’re not quite the same but close. Same for Three Musketeers and English Milky Way although I definitely like the UK one better in that case. It’s a lighter texture and not as sweet. Snickers are the same. There really aren’t any other comparisons except Bounty and Almond Joy are similar but no almonds on bounty and the bars are a little bigger. I like both.
I tend to prefer chewy candy like starburst but then again, I like the U.K. flavours better. There’s strawberry, orange, lime, lemon and blackcurrant there. I prefer lime and blackcurrant to the apple and grape flavours here

  3. Feels like Friday makes me feel like fun and freedom (even though I work Saturdays). It’s a great slogan. As for chocolate, Lindt Xtreme dark. Yep, I’m one of those people. No namby pamby candy bar for me, give me pure chocolate, little sugar 72% or better cocoa content! Yum! Favorite slogan, “The best part of waking up is Folgers in your cup” Now I don’t drink folgers coffee (unless there’s nothing else available) but me and coffee, we be bff’s. 😉 This was fun, think I’ll go have another coffee, maybe sprinkle a little cocoa powder on top! Muahahaha. (yep coffee fiend just took over). 😀

  4. Yummmm Chocolate…. I like them all. 😳😋😁

Dove has cute little quotes on the inner foil of all their chocolates in a bag.

For food taglines I like the “bada ba ba ba… I’m lovin it” jingle.

This is a “sweet” post that made me want to eat! Thank you Goldie! 🤗 Hope you have an amazing weekend!

    1. How could I have forgotten? Yes, the do. I’ve been a bit disappointed recently, because they have a lot of … lame-ish quotes. But they are submitted by actual customers, so that’s cool in a way.

Do you have Halloween leftover candy?

Have a great weekend as well!

      1. We always have candy. 😳😁

I did not know that they were from actual customers… cool fact!

I hope you are having a great weekend too Goldie!

  5. Unfortunately I avoid Twix and Snickers because I can’t stand the taste of caramel, but Kit Kat is delicious for its chocolate and wafer crunch. I enjoy chocolate, though I feel it tastes better for me if I eat it infrequently.

    1. Interesting to know that you’re not a fan of caramel. It can get annoying when it gets stuck to your teeth, but I like the taste just fine.
Yes, the KitKat is so nice and delicate. Melts in your mouth.
You just appreciate everything so much more when you get it in moderation.

  6. Crunchie is ok, pretty unique. Never actually knew it’s slogan. It’s pretty catchy haha. I’m a twix fan and a Mr. Big fan myself. Not familiar with my. Bigs slogan but kit Kat and snickers and Oh Henry slogans are burned in my head. Love oh Henry’s oh hungry? Oh Henry as been stuck in my head on since I was a kid. Still don’t like the taste of them but I’ll never forget them so I guess the marketing worked 😅

    1. You reminded me of Mr. Big. Are you in the UK? I haven’t seen those in the US. Never heard of “Oh Henry” before.
Interesting how you admit that the slogan sticks with you, even though you don’t like the product.

Hmm? What did you say? I did not hear ya.
