#MondayMotivation

Today is the last Monday of the month, and hence it is time for yet another installment of the Hashtag Week to begin.

Is it just me, or does it seem like January 1st was forever ago?

As I completely spaced out on posting today, I realized that my motivation was not as high as it should have been. In fact, my motivation resources are rather depleted. And it has just been 28 days…

Why did I mention the beginning of the year? It is because I wonder where YOUR motivation is on a scale of dead to thriving. Some of you might have made New Years Resolutions. Are you still going strong? Or have you already forgotten what your resolution even was?

Are you going to the gym?

Are you saving money?

Are you staying away from carbs?

My today’s motivation is a low grade one. I am almost embarrassed. But hey, it worked. It got me through today. What kept me going today and pushing for more was me reminding myself that others have it worse. No, I do not wish anyone ill will. However, it makes me appreciate what I have and makes me want to do more, because I have the opportunity. Not everyone does.

So, look around you. See if there is anyone who has it worse than you. See how hard they work. Why not strive to do better yourself?

What motivated you today?

Stay golden,

  1. I can’t believe that it’s almost February!

Today I got evaluation results back from my supervisor, and even though they’re not perfect, they motivated me. I’m seeing that my hard work is paying off, especially since I’m still a newbie teacher.

    1. And with February being so short, we’ll be into March before you know it. Warmth!

That’s great. Feedback is important so that you can see what you need to work on, and what is paying off.

      What do you teach?

  2. Motivation at the end of week is easy. It’s salary week 😉

I usually don’t believe in motivation, but I actually found a new motivation for drinking water. It has solved the digestion issue I have been having for ever.
I drink 1.5 L of luke warm water in the early morning.
It’s disgusting, but knowing how much it helps me: totally worth it.

    1. At the end of the month, you meant? Do you plan on splurging a little over the weekend, or are you putting it away for a future vacation?

1.5L? That seems like A LOT. I restarted drinking 250ml each morning. Do you add a bit of lemon to yours?

      1. Ah yes.
I am definitely keen on saving. We would sometimes go out for dinner or to the cinema, but that’s part of our financial plan.

1.5 L is a lot, but it’s the only thing that works for me (other than magnesium pills and a certain tea – which is either quite expensive or not easy to find in the stores).
No lemon. I am not even trying to enjoy. I just pour it my mouth.

        1. I see. I guess you could get used to it. At first, drinking a glass was difficult. Now I’m fine with that amount. Maybe I’ll increase to 0.5l to see if it makes any difference. How did you decide on your amount?

    1. And this is why receiving comments is so great. It ENLIGHTENS me quite often. Here I was, thinking about the lack of motivation, and then I read your comment, which made me dissect my life a bit. It turns out that there are some fields that I keep plowing through with no sign of slowing down. There is one, or two which has stalled, but I will push on, because why not try and be the best at everything.

Are you really considering a transition to a different career? I’m not sure what the requirements are, but what about being a judge?

      1. Yes, I am seriously considering a transition. Being a Judge in NYC is a very political post. You have to brownnose, campaign and eventually get voted in or at least hand picked by members of the current Judiciary. I don’t have that kiss ass kind of personality. Some of it is done strictly on merit but it all boils down to who you know…I don’t think a position in the Judiciary would suit me. Don’t get me wrong, I am fair and reasonable and believe me I would make an excellent Judge but it’s the getting to the bench part that is tricky, that’s the part I don’t have a whole lot of patience or tolerance for.

  3. I feel like it was only yesterday when I was running round the house, yelling “Happy New Year!” To me, January felt like it has just three days, and not thirty-one. 😁

Yes, I’m still working hard every day to achieve my goals. I don’t mean to brag, but I’ve already achieved (and surpassed) all the goals I set to achieve this month. I can only hope I face February with this same level of commitment and motivation.

    1. Same. I felt like this month had no middle. It started and then it began to end.

That’s a great achievement. I hope that gives you more power to tackle February. I think it’s great that you set short-term goals (on a monthly basis). They are easier to track and be accountable for.

Do you have goals for every month of this year?

      Like

      1. Thank you, Goldie.

To answer your question, no, I just have goals for this year. What I do is this: at the start of every month, I check my list of goals and pick a good number of them to achieve that month. That’s how I do it until I (hopefully) manage to achieve all my goals by the end of the year.

I just set my goals for February today.

  4. I think that’s great motivation, we do need to take a breath and appreciate what we have. January can be a difficult month, I certainly struggle with it. After all the excitement (and expense!) of Christmas and the holidays, it’s back to earth with a bump – and it’s cold and dreary here as well to add to the bargain!
I don’t usually do resolutions, but this year I gave myself a quiet little goal of attempting to get a bit fitter before I go away next month. So, I got myself back to the gym again after a long absence and also back to yoga classes. I’ve surprised myself that I’ve actually been keeping it up…and enjoying it! Having the holiday as a target has definitely helped though. I hope you are having a good Tuesday and your motivation resources start to replenish themselves 🙂

    1. The weather totally attributes to the slump.

That truly is amazing that you are enjoying the workouts. I think that should be a huge part of any related practice.

I think my motivation is replenishing. In fact, I think I jumped the gun. Sometimes, when there is a downturn, I just to conclusions and say that I’m out of it, only to discover more resources. I guess it’s my subconscious way of preparing for the no motivation phase. I just need to take it day by day.

      Where is your next destination?

      1. I can definitely identify with that! Maybe I spoke too soon, as today my motivation for working out has totally abandoned me!! I hope today has been a better day for you.

We are flying down under to visit the family again – I can’t wait!!

  5. It can be very difficult to stay motivated this time of year when the days are so short and the weather can be cold and nasty. So far so good for me but I have to say that my sisters are helping. At the beginning of the year we all decided to work on eating right and exercise. So we talk regularly and inspire and encourage each other. Love the quote. 🙂

    1. Yes, the cold makes me want to hibernate and nothing else, but I know some people are way colder than I am.

It’s great to hear you have a fantastic support system. It’s good to have someone to give you a shove every now and again.

And thank you for mentioning the quote. I was beginning to think that I was the only one who enjoyed it.

  6. I didn’t even bother making a new year’s resolution this year because I know I won’t be able to fulfill it. Sometimes I don’t know what motivates me to get out of bed and go to work, but I still get up and go to work because I don’t know what to do otherwise. I know I have a good job and so many people have worse problems so I have nothing to complain about. But sometimes I think I’m in the wrong direction because my life is too easy. Do you ever feel that way sometimes?

    Liked by 2 people

    1. Like I and another blogger concluded, you get out of bed and go to work, because you want the roof over your head and the food on your table. If I had an exorbitant amount of money, I probably would stop working. At least full time. It’s good to remind ourselves that some people wish they had a job like us.

I don’t know if easy is the right word. It’s just… uneventful. At least that’s how I feel. And yes, I do think that maybe I should be somewhere else where I could struggle, but I’d be doing bigger things. Things that would be more exciting, etc. But I have faith that I am exactly where I’m supposed to be.

      1. True, unless if we’re filthy rich we can’t stop working. But I guess it must be really boring to have nothing to do.

I guess I felt my life is easy because it’s nothing compared to my life when I was a student and I had to struggle to finish my studies and work very hard to keep my scholarship at the university. I don’t have to struggle now. It’s great that you know you’re where you’re supposed to be. I like my job but I’m just not sure it’s what I want to do for the rest of my life.

        1. Not knowing is a part of many of us. I think it’s only human. Maybe you’re not. You’re probably not. But where you are now, prepares you for the future. It’s annoying, but we need to have patience and faith.

          1. I guess I just don’t know anything about life at all. Maybe there is a greater scheme of things and we all just play a part. People say ignorance is bliss, and sometimes it’s a good thing. I’ll just look at it that way.

      1. The idea of making resolutions never really popped up. I think it was my subconscious getting tired of resolutions that were never really done.
It was only the thought “this is gonna be a great year” that came to mind and I remember someone told me that ‘if you confess, you profess’ so I held onto that and so far this year has been living to expectations. ☺️
