“An old friend finds you on a social networking site.”
– a prompt for this week’s CW piece.
[Source: @DailyPrompt]
My dad,
my mom,
my sibling
and I.
A family vacation.
Good ol’ times.
A dinosaur’s skeleton
at the museum.
Stars
at the planetarium.
Dolphins
at the aquarium.
The rain
has stopped,
but clouds
remained.
Day still young
a sin to waste.
A beach nearby
perfect for a stroll.
Toes dipped
in lukewarm water.
Game boys at home
and out of reach.
You and
your parents.
Walking
the beach.
Our moms (probably)
started the chat.
Two families
from far away.
Trying
to enjoy
the beach
on a gloomy day.
You and
my sibling
same age.
You
and I
a connection.
Instant
friends.
Addresses
exchanged.
Pen pals
for years.
Opposite sides
of the world.
Sending
letters
and postcards.
Keeping in touch.
Forgetting
to reply.
Communication
less often.
Sporadic.
Adrift.
The era
of Facebook.
A search.
A result.
A message.
Old times.
A visit
planned.
Heart
thumping.
Same people
from then?
Your page
perfect example.
Do not judge
a book
by its cover.
Troubled.
A strange post
on your wall.
A joke.
Surely.
It
can’t be.
Full
of life
you were.
And then
not.
An overdose.
A few minutes
on the beach.
Decades
ago.
You forever
my FRIEND.

This is not about a friend finding me, but me finding said friend.
It is a true story.
I could have written a dramatic, fictitious story in reply to this prompt, but the deceased friend came to mind the second I read the prompt.
It is meant to be a tribute to a friend and a friendship that never got the chance to blossom.

P.S. As always, you are more than welcome to use this prompt to inspire your post. If you decide to write something, be sure to pingback to this post, so that I can get an alert and check out your post. (A post on how to do pingbacks can be found here.) If pingbacks are not your thing, feel free to simply leave a link to your piece in the comment section below. The more, the merrier!
Stay golden,

It just happened to me a couple of days ago. 🙂

I hope you meant the friend found you on social media and not what happened to mine. Otherwise, the smiley would be … off.

I apologize for the misunderstanding in my part. No, I meant a friend of mine from the past just rediscovered me. Sorry about that.

It’s definitely nice to reconnect with people from the past.

I am sorry about your friend. I guess I should learn to read things more carefully next time.

Your piece gives a wonderful montage of past times, and lost times regained when we reconnect with old friends.

Nominated you for a sunshine award. You’re much better with awards than I — I don’t know how you do it, but it’s certainly worth an award in itself. You don’t have to do it at all; But I thought I’d give you a tag.

Since I’m here though… how are you doing? I’d meant to comment on this post, but… I wasn’t sure what to say. Still not. I don’t think there’s anything I can say that would ease the pain of a lost friend. But I wish you well… And if I can, I’ll pray for you both.

Thank you. I will most definitely do it. Expect to be featured in my end-of-month award post.
And thank you for your thoughts and prayers. It just saddens me that we were unable to reconnect in person. I know we would have had a blast. And this person was adored by so many. A kind spirit. A tragic loss. But at least they are at peace now.
