Blog “Block” Party – 3rd edition

The “Block” Party is hereby announced closed due to a neighbor’s noise complaint. It ran from 9/3/19 to 9/13/19 and it was a blast. I hope you all had a good time chatting, drinking, snacking and, most of all, connecting with other bloggers. It would be great to see you all next year for the annual Block Party!

***

It is September, which means that it is time for yet another Block Party! Are you as excited as I am?

My blog was barely three months old when I first decided to throw a Block Party. Why do I call it that? Wikipedia defines a block party as: “a party in which many members of a single community congregate, either to observe an event of some importance or simply for mutual enjoyment. The name comes from the form of the party, which often involves closing an entire city block to vehicle traffic.” Rather early on I knew that I did not just want to write for the sake of writing. What I wanted more was to connect THROUGH writing. WordPress gives us this opportunity with the comment section option.

If you want to see how it all started, you can go ahead and read part 1 of the 2017 Block Party –> HERE <– and part 2 –> HERE <–. And –> HERE <– is where you can see what happened in 2018.

While during the first one I worked tirelessly behind the scenes to get to know every single one of my fellow bloggers and shine the spotlight on them, I could not do that last year due to the size of my audience (WOOHOOO!). This year, I decided to combine a little bit of what I did the first time around with what I did last year.

RULES:

  1. Have fun. This is a party. Shake loose.
  2. If you have Twitter, feel free to share your handle with us.
  3. Write a short description of what your blog is about.
  4. Share a link to one of your posts.
  5. Answer at least one of the below questions.
    a) When you have 30 minutes of free-time, how do you pass the time and why?
    b) If you had a “get out of jail free” card, what crime would you commit and why?
    c) If you could breed two totally different animals together, what new animal would you create and why?
    d) What is your favorite mode of transportation and why?
  6. Visit the blog to which a link was posted last (the one before you; my comment section is organized the way that the oldest comment shows up first, so be sure to scroll down for the latest comment).
  7. Visit as many other blogs as you can.
  8. Check them out on social media if you want to.
  9. Leave some feedback for the blogs you visited on THEIR page.
  10. Comment here under the link you visited with a short “commented”, or something similar.

The plan is to leave this party going for a week. However, I do reserve the right to close it sooner or prolong it if I see fit.

Stay golden,

  1. Hello everyone! My name is Darnell. I’m glad to be part of Goldie’s party. Hope you are too. Here’s a bit about me if you don’t know already. I have a writing blog called Fictionista that encourages writing and is the home of my original fiction. Pop over later and take a look.
    https://darnellcureton.com/2019/08/02/3rd-sunshine-blogger-award/
I’m also on Twitter so tap that tweet!

Before I go, here are answers to some of Goldie’s questions. Be sure to answer some also. If everyone can gather around… When you have 30 minutes of free-time, how do you pass the time and why? I like to get in some reading time of other author’s work. To polish my craft, I need to know what the world is reading.
If you had a “get out of jail free” card, what crime would you commit and why? I’d be a politician. I won’t say what crime, but it would be as big as in recent years. Now tweet that.
Going to visit some other blogs at the party. Like the Terminator…I’ll be back. Have fun.

    1. Thank you for going first so that I could discover that I had to alter my settings. Your comment holds two links and my settings were to hold such comments for approval. This will not fly for this Block Party, so I changed it and hopefully it will flow better now.

  2. I enjoy a good block party so thanks for having me!

My name is BlackSheep. That’s not my real name, of course. I write a blog called NotSheepMinded. It’s about not being a sheep and turning off that hypnotizing cellular phone once in a while. I hope you like it!

    Sorry, I don’t have Twitter.

When I have thirty minutes of free time, I blog, of course. And if I have more time, I read other blogs.

My favourite mode of transport is my bike. I wrote about it in a post called cycles and another called antidepressants.

I just checked out Darnell’s blog and it looks like there is a lot of good stuff over there. If you like reading original fiction, definitely check it out!!!

Anyway, thanks again and look forward to checking out more of your blogs!

  3. Hi all, I’m Kim. I’ll take a glass of Pinot thanks.

If I had a ‘Get out of jail free’ card, I’d probably break in to a huge library or bookshop and just camp out there, reading.

I write fiction and blog about books and my journey to becoming a “real writer” over at Writer Side of Life. I’m on Twitter as @shufflingpaper

Have a look at my recent post about books we just could not put down.

    1. Your “get out of jail free” card story put a smile on my face. I can definitely relate to such a crime.

I will be headed towards your blog shortly and checking you out on Twitter, too!

        1. Cool. I’ve a pile of books from the library and charity shop here. Over the shabbat (Friday night till Saturday night) I often read through 5, you can read the rest of them. Or we can make out own library/bookshop. Imagine having a bookshop or library next door?

  4. Hiya! I’m Heather. Where’s the snacks? Particularly the cheese, please!

If I could use a get out of jail free card, I’d totally use it to murder. I’m not sure against who yet, but I’d totally make it count in a big way.

My blog is all about my ramblings and obsessions as an Avon lady. A favorite post of mine can be found here:

    1. Cheese? Of course there’s cheese. I cannot live without it. There’s some crackers, too. And filet mignon sliders.

Finally someone came out and said it. I wonder if it would be someone you know personally or not.

            1. I understand that you target women. It’s logical. But maybe you could have your partner try the male products and use that as addition to your female posts. Just an idea I’ve thought of before.

              Liked by 4 people

              1. A good idea in theory. First: I need a willing partner. He’s generally allergic to scented products (his skin breaks out in a rash) and the majority of all products for men are scented, so those are out. He does use an eye gel and a discontinued line of bath and body products for sensitive skin. Outside of that, he’s just not interested or willing. Don’t think I haven’t tried.

                Liked by 4 people

                    1. That won’t work. He’s ex-army and doesn’t scare easily. Plus, he’d probably enjoy getting roughed up (if you’re female), or getting to break out his concealed carry weapon (if you’re male). Back to the drawing board.

                      Liked by 4 people

          1. They only have fragrance lines that include bath and body products (deodorant, etc.) for men and occasional limited edition seasonal items. They used to have a skin care line, but that was discontinued a couple of years ago.

  5. Hi, I write about history – mostly from the last 300 years but you’ll find a little of everything. I’ve also started embracing guest posts! Other people’s interests vary differently to mine and can offer even more subject diversity.

I’ve took a short break from my blog this year – it was supposed to be a week, then a month, 8 months later . . . I’m now trying to get back in the swing whilst studying for work so my previous pattern of posting won’t be repeated anytime soon, but hopefully, I’ll manage one or two a month when I’m busy with work.

A free 30 minutes? I generally play a couple of games on my phone and if I’m at home I’ll pick up a book. 🙂

  7. *taps mic* My mom shoved me out into the crowd, so I guess I’ll introduce myself. I’m Belle and you’re out of Diet Pepsi…and that’s just…for a friend. *clears throat*

I’d probably start an undercover goat smuggling business or something; one of those super sketchy places that turns out to be doing nothing wrong. I guess the only crime would be the violation of many city guidelines on yard upkeep and how many animals per city lot. What can I say? I’m pretty rowdy.

Unfortunately, I’m having some technical difficulties so you can’t just click on my name. Here’s my site: https://untilfurthernotice21.wordpress.com/
Stop by sometime. Unlike this Block Party (no offense, Goldie), I always have fresh cheeses. You know, from the goats.

    1. Welcome!
(Btw, your name now takes me to your blog, so all works well.)

Do you really have goats? You seem to be almost obsessed. I read about pig sperm smuggling recently, so your goat smuggling comes as no shock to me. In fact, maybe I could join you in that venture.

      Not everyone likes goat cheese!

Also, I like your sense of humor.

      1. Thanks!

No, on the contrary. But I find them cute, I suppose. You would be welcome to join in with my criminal activity; always good to have a partner, especially in the ever-elusive trade of goat smuggling. You never know what might come up. Having to harvest fresh hay, grain, leaves…pretty dangerous stuff out here at the *imaginary* farm.

And, quite right. It’s not everyone’s thing. Probably just the sophisticated of society…

        1. How long has it been since you had goat cheese? There are tons of varieties and most of them are crazy delicious! My hubs was anti-goat cheese too, until I started putting it out on my cheese boards without his knowledge and he started tasting them. Is it just a mind block?

  8. Hi,

I go by Eliza. I’ve 2 blogs. Reasons to live and journey through life. Taglined appropriately – journey from suicidality and journey to life. The posts I’d share are https://elizareasonstolive.com/letter-to-the-suicidal/ which I think defines what that blog is about.
And https://elizajourneythroughlife.home.blog/2019/09/03/wanna-know-you-better-tag/ because I’d love to hear everyone’s answers and get to know them. G, I hope you answer the tag from Simon one day!

I’ve checked out the blogs of those who have commented here, and commented on a few so far. It’s cool to see how everyone has different interests. Keep being awesome, because you are awesome!

If I had 30 minutes free time I’d either be on wordpress, SF (suicideforum.com/community) journaling, or reading. Depends on my mood at the moment.

    Love, light and glitter

    1. I think your “Reasons to live” blog is very unique and can be so helpful to those of us walking through darkness.

I respond to tags and award nominations on a monthly basis (last day of the month to be precise). This is the last one in which I respond to Simon’s questions: https://dailyflabbergast.wordpress.com/2019/08/31/award-ceremony-august-2019-receiving-and-giving/
Stay tuned for the one on September 30th, but in the meantime, you can check that one out.

Thank you! I’m really proud of all of you mingling. Another thing that I’m proud of is the versatility of people I interact with. There really isn’t a single niche. And it makes it oh so interesting.

Stay golden, and maybe sway to the music a bit.

      Liked by 3 people

      1. What music do you have playing? Sitting (okay, lying down) and swaying to the music of the washing machine. I have to now check out the rest of the comments on this post.

I’m looking forward to you answering next time. You definitely have a variety of people. Your blog itself is also quite varied, it seems like lots of people like to form a specific niche or blog about one specific thing, because you don’t just blog about one thing, and are varied enough yourself, you’ll attract a variety.

  9. Hey! When I started following Goldie’s blog, I had been blogging a couple of years. Since then, partly due to his CW, I am now a published author! Alternativebookclub.com. We’ve written 5 books now and working on a 6th. https://solomonsadvisor.wordpress.com/2019/09/05/best-laid-plans-2/ is concerned with leadership and wisdom issues.

I also am writing random thoughts, CW challenges, and silly things like, “Why would a Bank be advertising it’s back in Black?” Oh, because Nebraska Black Shirts. I’m not sure I’d want to put my money into a bank that celebrates being in the black again. Was it in the red before? https://ihavebetterthingstodo.wordpress.com/2019/07/26/cw-for-one-day/

Have 1/2 hour of free time? What’s that? Ok, I binge-watch police procedurals. I also just sit and ponder things, like the formation of the solar system. Add stuff to my novel. Listen to Jacob Collier. Lose 4-6 hours on facebook…

    Liked by 7 people

    1. It’s an honor to hear that I was somewhat an inspiration to your books. Well done.

You made me laugh with the last statement. If you have 0.5h free you lose 4-6h on FB. I think many people have the same problem.

  10. If I had a get out of jail free cards I’d break into the Oval Office and install term limits for everyone elected to ANY position of power! I’d also change politicians health care to “standard rank and file” and I’d pardon myself for any and all past, current and future exploits, shenanigans and bad assery. I’m a multi-taster!

    a) When you have 30 minutes of free-time, how do you pass the time and why?
I go outside and hike or run or cycle or …. Being outside is my happy place 😉

    b) If you had a “get out of jail free” card, what crime would you commit and why?
I’ve had my eyes on some very expensive gear lately, maybe it would suddenly go missing from te store 😉

    c) If you could breed two totally different animals together, what new animal would you create and why?
This is a difficult one! I have no idea…

    d) What is your favorite mode of transportation and why?
Well, walking obviously… But next to that the train. 😉

    Cheers!

  14. Hi! I don’t know if I’m doing it right but I’m Lou, and I’m a rookie! (Even tho my blog’s been up for a year and half :P)
I recently moved to USA and I’m writing some article about the process I’ve been through, hoping it can help other people who look at internet for answers! I call my blog LuberryLab because I think we are all scientist trying to mix things around us and see what works in our life.
I’m interested in photography and my usual subject is myself! https://www.instagram.com/lluberry/

I am planning to be more active and write DIYs like my wedding https://luberrylab.wordpress.com/2019/06/10/diyweddingproject/

What is your favorite mode of transportation and why?
I would say a bus. You can just sit by the window, share small nods and smile with other people (or not interact at all), see parts of city you don’t usually go to. And the best place to nap lol. I always end up falling asleep (IK, I should stop diong that)

PS. I’ll do my best to visit everyone’s blog to learn better in writing ❤

    1. Hello, Lou!

Where’d you move from? Your blog sounds intriguing. I will make my way over to your site shortly.

I like buses, too, but long distance ones more than the ones that stop every other minute and are stuck in traffic most of the time.

Please, take a look around and mingle. There’s an awesome crowd here!

Before I go, here are answers to two of Goldie’s questions.
When you have 30 minutes of free-time, how do you pass the time and why? I might read a book or listen to an audiobook, I might call a friend, I might go for a short walk or watch something on Netflix.

What is your favorite mode of transportation and why? I like to drive. You never know what you might see along the way and you can always stop to check something out.

Hope to find some new blogs to follow as well as attract some new followers to my site. Thanks for doing this Goldie.

    1. Welcome, Carla! So nice to have you. I hope you take a look around and make make some new friends. Do you like audiobooks as much as traditional ones?

I can totally relate to your answers to the questions.

      1. Hi Darnell. I really enjoyed that one. I probably listen to more books than I read now. I love that I can listen while I am doing mundane tasks like cleaning, dishes, gardening etc.

        Liked by 2 people

      2. I am yet to get into audiobooks, but the commute to and from work is getting to me a little. I might have to jump on that bandwagon. I can’t read a book while I’m driving. Although, I heard yesterday about a woman who used to read her book while riding her bike…

        Liked by 1 person

          1. I was just wondering about that, so I asked Carla if she is able to hold focus on the book if she does other stuff at the same time.

No, she was not. I could not believe it. She was recounting a story how she was doing that and she drove into a car parked on the sidewalk. Insane!

              1. I apologize for my comment being a little confusing. The second paragraph of my comment was about the woman riding a bike and reading a book. It was not a stationary bike. It was an actual bike. I didn’t mean Carla riding a bike and listening to an audiobook.

By the way, I visited your blog just now, and I really like what I saw. Goldie’s Bloq is all about meeting new people and becoming friends with them; although, in my case, it’s helped me reconnect with an old potential friend. I still can’t believe I’ve been feeling you for a long time now, and I’m just knowing.
