NROP: Using your body to put out raging fires.

No, the title is not a naughty wordplay. In this case, fire means literal fire and not just the figurative one of passion and desire.

If you live somewhere other than under a rock, you have probably heard about the fires in Australia. The burning flora has consumed a lot of the fauna, leaving us all in disbelief. Seeing photos of charred koalas and videos of them being rescued stir our hearts. We hope and pray that the disaster will stop and that it never happens again.

Some of you might be wondering what you can do to help. It is my recommendation that you abstain from lighting fires and tossing cigarette buds onto the ground that can catch on fire.

But, Goldie, I am not a pyromaniac and I do not smoke” – I hear some of you say.

OK, let us see what else you can do to help… How about volunteering your time to nurse the animals back to help at zoos and rehabs?

But, Goldie, I do not live anywhere near those affected places. I live overseas” – you say.

I am glad you came to me then. There is something else you can do. Donate money to rescue efforts.

But, Goldie, I have to pay my electric bill so I do not freeze to death” – you reply.

But, Goldie, I already spent all my pocket money for this month” – some of you might be thinking.

Do not worry. Money is not everything. If you cannot turn back time, if you cannot assist in person, if you cannot donate money, you can always sell your body.

What?” – I hear you ask, choking on tea.

You heard me right.

Whenever we are asked to help, our thoughts go straight to money. It seems to be the easiest of options. Just throw your money at a problem and then you can forget all about it. But as someone who is not insanely rich, I can understand that donating money does not always seem possible. Yes, sometimes it is just an excuse. We feel like we do not have too much, so we hold onto it tightly. Maybe sometimes we feel embarrassed to donate less than what we think is appropriate, so we donate nothing at all.

Whenever people figure out how to help others while helping themselves, I applaud them for their creative thinking and wonder why I have not thought of something similar.

But, Goldie, would you really sell nudes?” – you ask.

Oh, yea, that is right. Sometimes I prefer to leave the out-of-the-box thinking to others, after all.

Instagram has become a great resource for aspiring models/celebrities. We all know that to become famous, one has to post selfies on Insta at least a couple of times a day. Everything has to align – you have to have a nice body (or a powerful story), and a lot of followers. Then, you just cross your fingers and hope that someone will “discover” you and put you on the fast track to fame.

We live during a time when women fight against objectification of females. They do not want men to look at them and think naughty thoughts. They want to be seen as equals. (Is that trying to turn men gay?) As human beings with brains and not just objects used for sex.

Or so we are told…

Until you get women selling nudes to strangers on the Internet to raise money for the Australian fires.

Yes, I heard you gasp.

Kaylen Ward, who calls herself The Naked Philanthropist, is a 20-year-old, who earlier this month announced that she would send nude photos of her to anyone who donated $10 or more to one of the organizations she listed. Since then, she is said to have raised $1,000,000 for the Australian fires. She hired people to research reliable organizations for those donations, and to verify that those who claimed they donated actually did.

She is surprised that her mother does not support her efforts and the guy she was “talking to” is not talking to her anymore, but she is proud of herself for helping “so many people”. She has since announced a new campaign. This time around she will be selling nudes for donations to Puerto Rico after the recent earthquakes.

If you are being strategic about this, you will not donate more than $10 at a time. That means that about 100,000 people donated to an organization helping Australia recover because of Kaylen. It makes me wonder how many nudes she has/takes. Or does she just have one and sends everyone the same copy? (Feel free to email me privately if you know the answer to this question.) Needless to say, her nude photos were leaked all over Internet.

Kaylen said that “Not all heroes wear capes.” Apparently, they can also wear nothing at all. Last year, another Instagram “influencer” posted a censored photo of herself, asking people to donate money towards saving the Amazonian jungle. The description includes the hashtag #pussypower. “Grab your wallets, unlock your sons and grab theirs too” – Khate Rad added. So who is fueling the objectification now? Who is pushing men to be lustful? No, definitely not women.

Yet another Instagram celebrity, Tammy Hembrow, was forced to delete her photo and deactivate her account after receiving criticism for her fundraising campaign. The photo showed her wearing bikini bottoms and a wet crop top. Tammy said that all the proceeds from her clothes collection will go towards Australian fires relief. She has since reinstated her account. I imagine having more than 10 million followers is not something she wanted to lose forever.

What convinces you to donate to a cause?

How do you persuade others to donate to a cause in which you believe?

What do you think of “sex workers” raising money for charities?

  1. Ohhh right. Let’s sell nudes and pretend it’s for a good cause.
Not at all to be discovered and gain those followers.

Why don’t I start a campaign like that.
People buy my doodles or donate money for a blog. I’ll give to Australia, as long as those people subscribe to my blog.

I don’t believe in NGO’s as long the top managers drive around in a big ass car. Besides, there are so many to choose from.
What if I donate to Australia. Everyone thinks I am awesome.
Then suddenly something else happens elsewhere and I am bot giving money because I already gave to the koala’s.
Then I am the bitch of the century.

Giving money is not for regular people.
The topmanagers’ money would be worth much more.

    1. You’re right. No one wants inta-fame nowadays…

There you go. Great campaign. Unfortunately, some are more popular than others.

There are so many scams related to charities. It’s rather sad. And you’re totally right – you can’t simply donate to all causes. And what makes one cause more important than the other?

  2. This sounds just like a plot in a novel I read recently where a teenaged girl offers her body to the top bidder – to raise money to fight human trafficking! And she can’t understand why her parents are so against it. (Ironically, the book is by Lian Moriarty, an Australian woman.)

  3. If you cannot afford to give or go help living too far away. Then be vigilant in your own country. Make sure all rubbish is cleared away keeping streets and homes clean so if there should be an outbreak in your area the fire does not have so much to fuel it. Do not throw out cigarettes or butts into fields, farming areas or land with a lot of undergrowth. Think responsibly about how you live and care for your plant so others may live to enjoy it.

I cannot support the nude photos as this goes against my beliefs in encouraging the spread of evil and I support the parents of the girl offering her body to raise money for human trafficking afterall this is what it is about. The girls is supporting the evil of trafficking.

  4. I saw this nudes for Australia donation news earlier this month and was surprised how weird can people be.

I have worked with an NGO in the education sector. Never really donated money. Just devoted my time. Once bought some stationery for the kids. I feel giving time to the cause is more important than giving money.

I don’t ask people to join, because I know they won’t. I don’t have the skills to convince people. But I do share photos and event updates of the work that I did and the NGO is doing. This has prompted a lot of people to volunteer and/or donate.

If we talk about Australia, the other day I worked on a story about how people from all over the world are knitting pouches and mittens for koalas, kangaroos, bats and foxes and other animals affected by the fires. They are sending all the stuff to animal aid organisations. I was really moved by this.

There’s a 6 year old who’s making clay koalas and selling them to raise funds. That’s thoughtful. He’s just 6!

This one may not be about donation, but it really touched my heart. A baby koala born at Zoo Miami has been named Hope to honour the ones who lost their lives in the fires.

I’ve reported many more positive stories related to the fires. All these just warmed my heart.

  5. I read about this and thought it so odd. I believe they are probably sincere, they just saw the opportunity for a “twofer” and went with it. I despair a bit over the rush for Instagram and social media fame, however. For having “famous” as a life goal. For girls willing to turn themselves into masturbatory material in order to be validated with clicks. It is a weird, weird world. I know they say they’re doing it themselves so they are empowered. So why doesn’t it feel like empowerment when you’re on the outside looking in?

  6. What convinces you to donate to a cause?
Usually, I know the recipients, but I also donate to certain organizations because I believe in their mission—rarely do I donate to causes that aren’t local or regional to me.

How do you persuade others to donate to a cause in which you believe?
I don’t know that I persuade anyone, but I put the story out there. Photos/videos are always persuasive.

What do you think of “sex workers” raising money for charities?
Why do people care where the money comes from? I sure don’t.

    1. I think helping things locally gives us a better opportunity to follow up and see the difference vs. sending money “out there.”

I understand what you’re trying to say, but it makes me think of money laundering. Sometimes we need to care where the money is coming from.

      1. Laundering doesn’t even remotely concern me when donating because that would require payment/use of amounts donated back to the donor, or whomever the donor is acting on behalf of. Charities generally utilize their donated funds legitimately.

  7. Well, I did have my share of chuckles here – as I often do when I read your sarcasm – but, while I wouldn’t support nude photos to help disaster victims, one got to applause the creativity. Yet, when one has so many followers, why not simply ask people to help donate? it probably won’t generate the same amount of donation, but still….

    1. Thank you, Jina!

I definitely agree that her thinking was creative. People who accomplish their goals are worth a thought. What can we learn from that? When there’s a will there’s a way?

You make a valid point. Why not just ask? Someone else mentioned that it might have also been a PR stunt, and I agree. They got to raise some money for a good cause AND gain subscribers (+who knows what).

  8. Such an approach to a call to action wouldn’t be for me, but I commend her for trying. She made the personal decision to do it, and it helped. If it actually helped, that is. Although most people doing Instagram campaigns like that are after the following and not so much the philanthropic advantages such a maneuver would generate.

  9. All I can say is gross. This gives me a stomach ache. I feel sick for the girl, sick for her parents and sick over the fact people pay for nudes. Yuck, yuck and yuck again. This is coming from someone who is immensely against anything having to do with pornography and making money off sex. I generally say ” to each their own”, but in matters of promoting sexual addiction I draw the line. There’s so much misuse of sex in the world. There are millions of causes to donate to and countless tragedies happening throughout the world daily. Give where you can, when you can, in a way that doesn’t promote further disfunction.

    1. I’m just surprised that there is no more outrage from feminists, since she is doing the opposite of what they’re doing. They don’t want men looking at women in that way. And this woman does everything to lure them in.

      1. I get so angry over stuff like this. I’m listening to an audio book, a true story of a gal who was held captive for 18 years by a psychopath. Grrrrrrr, I could castrate all the sicko’s out there……..He’s just rotting in prison, which is more freedom than she had for 18 years……Ok, i’ll stop now….put my fangs away

  10. haha…like your sense of humour. As for the nudity parts, I would say “To each its own” … There is so much one can do or choose to do in this virtual society with the digital economy. I think there’s abit of ‘yay’ & ‘nay’ here and there. Such as, is the intention(using body to raise fund) good, ‘yay’….is this the only (“creative”) way to render help? ‘nay’

  11. What convinces me to donate?
Id have to investigate the organization to be sure the money goes where it’s supposed to. About 20 years ago I remember a situation in New York where you could rent from the city of NY a special Homeless Donation Box, table, and chair for $50 dollars.

The renter would sit on the corner any street in NY and ask for donations for the homeless. At the end of the day, the renter kept the money donated. The original 50 dollars was used for “administrative needs” and the upkeep of the donation equipment.

That stopped, once the truth came out, but I question how much of donated money goes where it’s supposed to.

I’ve never heard of nudies for donations. So…its okay to use women as sex objects as long as its for a good cause? Who determines what is not a good cause?

  12. I don’t know what if I’ve already told you this, but I adore NROP 🙂 I’m waiting impatiently for every upcoming post! You always touch upon great topics in the way which makes a wow effect!

Selling nudes for a good cause? It doesn’t call for me. It rather sounds like trying to catch the opportunity to get ahead. To attract attention. There are so many ways to encourage people for donating that the nude pictures don’t have to be the first choice.

    1. Thank you! That’s great to hear. Perfect timing. There was a poll I posted at the end of the last year to see which category is the most liked by my readers. CW got the most votes. I’ve been thinking about blogging recently and if I should change anything to make it better. But I’ve come to realize that NROP was my first child and I cannot let it go. Plus, I have too much fun writing those and then discussing them. And since I’m working on sharpening my creative writing, CW isn’t going anywhere, either.

When it comes to social media, I have a hard time distinguishing between honesty and hidden agendas.

      1. That’s good to hear that NROP isn’t going anywhere 🙂 What about HW and BT? Are you planning to keep them? NROP is particularly appealing for me as it’s giving me another perspective on current events I’m sometimes not even aware of. It’s a great thought-provoker!

Speaking about social media, do you believe there are still people who put forward honesty instead of profitability?

        Liked by 1 person

        1. BT’s last installment was scheduled to come out 2 weeks ago… but then things happen. But I do hope to finish the post before the end of the month. After that, I will be taking a break from it for a while.

As far as HW is concerned, I think I will just narrow it down to #TuesdayThoughts and #WednesdayWisdom IF I feel like sharing. I won’t put too much pressure on myself with that.

At least that’s the plan. For now. One day at a time…

Well, I have not made a single cent with this blog, so my answer has to be: “Yes.” I like to think that even if I became a famous, rich blogger I would still remain true to myself. But that’s not something any one of us can know 100% until we actually get there. The reason why I mentioned that is because I’ve read so many stories about people not believeing in what they are selling. Plus, I think that honesty in general isn’t as popular.

          1. I think it’s good to take a break from something that you don’t feel the same enthusiasm about. This break will help you to verify if you want to give it another try or a change has to be implemented.

Nevertheless, I must say that I’ve been always appreciating BTs and I hope that you’ll come back with a new series soon! #TuesdayThoughts and #WednesdayWisdom are also worth maintaining them in my opinion. I genuinely enjoy reading them.

I’m wondering if any rich blogger/influencer has promised another day to stay authentic or rather already knew that he’ll take whatever is necessary to succeed. Money changes everything. We sell whatever someone wants to buy. The more controversy, the better sales figures. But it’s also something which is imposed by the audience. If they’ve been not buying it, nobody would be selling it. People, as consumers, dictate the trends. Maybe, if we stop getting interested in and watching such products, then its number will start to decrease.

Do you have any particular links with stories of people who don’t believe what they’re selling?

            1. It’s not really about not being passionate about some of my segments. It’s about trying to be realistic and prioritizing.

But you are right. Nothing is ever definite when it comes to my blogging. Who knows what might happen in the future?

You’re the best! Too kind with your support, but I’ll take it. I’m honored that anyone would ready anything written by me.

https://www.yahoo.com/lifestyle/vegan-influencer-caught-eating-fish-shocked-fans-outraged-never-expected-reaction-220441429.html is one that I wrote about a while ago. Other than that, I cannot come up with anything else on the spot, but it might be because I don’t pay too much attention to it.

              1. I remember that post! Indeed, that blogger scored a slip-up which completely ruled out what she’s been promoting and selling. I understand that it’s hard to break through without having something innovative. But if you decide to sell it, you need to be a real proof. If you don’t think it’s good for you, you shouldn’t propose it to other people either.

When it comes to your posts, I believe you’ve embraced a smart approach to prioritizing and being realistic. You know the best what works for you and for your readers. It’s not out of the question that one day I’ll do the same. But until then, I need to figure out what works for me and my readers.

Are you thinking about publishing a new novel this year? Do you consider to get published with any other format of writing?

                Liked by 1 person

                1. I would like to publish my WIP this year, but realistically speaking, it might not happen. I’m in the slow process of doing first edits. I’m not yet sure how to tackle the rest (beta readers and such). I am so passionate about the book that I would love to actually get it published through an established house. You know, have an agent and all. Right now, I am just taking it one step at a time.

What do you mean by “other format?”

                    1. My WIP is a novel. My short story was published at the end of last year. I wouldn’t mind if more of my “short” stories got published this year. Funny that you mention poetry. There used to be a time during which I wrote a few pieces, of which I was rather proud. I’ve recently toyed with the idea of trying to write some new pieces. You never know…

I’m happy to hear that it made you laugh!

I agree. It’s not something I understand. Some claim that nudes are disrespectful while others think they are empowering. It’s so weird how people can have such drastically different views on the same subject.

      1. It was annoying. I haven’t been following most posts recently but wanted to see yours.

What is your opinion? I don’t think it is either. I understand both views. I do think, however, that selling pictures of oneself is cheap – regardless if it is nude or not. It is a lack of value for ones body, which is worth more than a bit of money.

  14. So many question sna things going on it’s a toughie… I don’t get this women not wanting to be objectified thing because now more than ever that seems to be what many women seem to seek. I tend to take the view that I wouldn’t judge anyone for anything as long as it’s not hurting others as everyone has to satisfy their own driving force.

How ya doing anyway? It’s been a while 🙂

  15. I am weary of the corporations that donate, I rather put the money in the hands of those I actually can visit and see. Not always of course, but I try to. Like our kids hospital for example, seeing those kids is all you need to justify the return on your kind gesture.

As for the nudes, if you want to pay me money for a good cause…hmmmm, lol
