CW: My way or protest

Riley stared at the plate in front of her in disbelief. It wasn’t what she ordered.

She watched the waitress slowly approach the table.

“I wanted mac ’n’ cheese” – Riley spat out.

“This IS mac ‘n’ cheese” – the waitress calmly replied.

Riley folded her arms, pouted, and frowned at the broccoli. She was not going to eat anything until she got exactly what she ordered. Or chocolate, which was the one thing that would always magically fix things.

“You will eat whatever I give you, young lady” – Riley’s mother said, sitting down next to her at the kitchen table.

  1. Gave me a good laugh. I remember my aunty telling me how she tried to give salted vermicelli to my nephew when he ordered Maggi. 😂😂😂😂 Now he knows where the achhi vali Maggi (Maggi which is good) is kept 😂

  2. Ha! This was great 🙂 I was a short order cook with my kiddos when they were young. Archie became a vegetarian at age 11, my youngest had dairy allergies….etc…etc…..”this too shall pass” is what I told myself….miraculously it did, now it’s just me, Jase and cricket the cat.

    1. Food allergies are terrifying. I remember hearing about my sibling’s friend who could not eat eggs. He also couldn’t eat most of anything, really, but the eggs I could not comprehend. I guess if I couldn’t eat them, I wouldn’t like them… How poor some lives can be without all of the food experiences.

      1. I caught his while I was nursing him, so he grew out of them by the time he was 6ish. So grateful that I didn’t take the pediatricians diagnosis of my infant having eczema. I knew it was food since I was nursing him. Turned out it was dairy and eggs. Crazy

  3. I missed this one! I will become an email subscriber as well!

This made me grin. Bit like me and my mum.
Have you ever send anything back in a restaurant?
I can only remember doing it once. I feel too awkward

    1. I have a feeling that I have in the past, but I cannot really remember. Recently my partner and I ordered some sort of fries (don’t remember what kind) as a side dish (to try) for our lunch. We got just regular fries instead. We just shrugged it off and took it as a sign that we would not have liked the other ones. The waitress realized her mistake after a while, but we told her not to worry. She was having a rough day and we didn’t feel the need to make it worse.

    1. Sometimes what we order isn’t exactly what we envision. For some mac ‘n’ cheese is just that, while others add bacon and broccoli, etc. It’s an illustration of our desires in life in general. We want something, but then are disappointed when we don’t get exactly what we thought. Expectations can definitely mess us up.
