At some point in the past six weeks, I received a notification from WordPress congratulating me on having blogged yet another year. It has been THREE years! Can you believe it?
Since I was in the middle of something when I saw the announcement, I ended up forgetting about it until now. Like every year, around the time when I get an anniversary notification, I scrolled through the list of my posts. There are SO many. (Almost 500.)
While three years sounds like a long time, I was surprised how it did not seem that long at all.
Three years ago, at the end of April, I created a WordPress account for the very first time. For the next couple of weeks, I played with my page, trying to make everything perfect. Of course, I know that perfection does not exist, but considering that I have not changed anything related to my theme/ layout since then, I consider it a success. I like my page just the way it is. For now.
It was not until the middle of May when I published an introductory post. My first “real” post came a day later. It was a NROP about the differences between kids 20 years ago and today.
By the end of August, I shared my first CW piece.
First year of blogging: May 2017 – May 2018 – Hmm… technically, it was the easiest year for me in the past three years. There was a lot of time on my hands and not much worry. I focused on learning about the blogosphere and growing my community.
Year two: May 2018 – May 2019 – I moved and had to adjust to a brand new life. New city, new job, new people, new home. Things were not as easy as the year before and I loosened up my blogging routine to make sure that things did not fall through the cracks. It was a busy year but a rather pleasant one overall. I participated in NaNoWriMo and managed to draft my first novel.
Year number three: May 2019 – May 2020 – It was the most difficult out of all three for me. I found myself often in a bad headspace due to either work or family. Sometimes I felt bad for letting that negative energy carry through in my writing or comments but you did not seem to mind. I truly appreciate your understanding. Writing allowed me to keep my head above water. Being able to discuss my writing (as well as yours) with you helped make me feel better on so many occassions. I have exchanged personal messages with a few of you and it really warmed my heart in the coldest of moments. THANK YOU!
So many things have happened since 2017 on these pages.
I accepted awards and I created one, too.
I shared my motivation, thoughts, wisdom, throwbacks, and feelings with you during #HW.
We have all contributed to the series of blogging related questions and came up with some noteworthy blogging tips.
Just before the pandemic (and my personal tribulations), I started a new series in which I would reblog someone’s post. I hope to return to it this month.
Last month, I have announced my willingness to work with vendors and shared my first Golden Review.
Not more than a week ago, I have reached 2,000 followers here on WordPress. For some, that might not be much, but for me, it is a huge accomplishment. Thank you, ALL!
Today, I announce yet a new series*.
(*Limited time only!)
Every now and again, I will publish a post related to a specific country. I am not sure what form it will take on just yet, which is exciting because it sounds like a perfect opportunity for me to freestyle.
Fair warning – What I do know is that you might not see a post about your country. Well, actually, if you are reading this before the posting of the first episode, chances are you will not see your country featured here. Why not? I have to admit that it is for selfish reasons.
Do you ever look at the World Map in your Stats page? I know I do. There are certain countries that I just cannot get a dent in. I have tried searching for posts by people from those countries and commenting on them. Mostly with no results. So this is my attempt at bringing some new flavor to my blog.
How would you benefit from that? You just might learn more about the world and maybe even meet some people that have been hiding on the other side of the Moon.
Are you ready to give it a shot?
Stay golden,
.

Hey, cheers to you, Goldy! Congratulations on your third anniversary, and as the owner of a 3-year-old blog myself, I must say I admire you a lot for being so regular with your posts, which are always so well-articulated, which is the reason why you literally have 10X more followers than me 😀
Your new series sounds great. It’ll definitely get you extra publicity in those countries where you don’t yet have followers, and I’m saying this from my own experience- in one of my posts, I mentioned learning Greek from Duolingo, and a couple of Greek bloggers actually followed me after that. Seems we’re all looking for a little familiarity in this great big blogosphere, eh?
That said, I’ll be sorry to not see a post about India on here- would’ve been interesting to see what non-Indians think about it.
Anyway, congrats once again and best wishes for a new year of blogging!

Thank you. I feel off-balance if I don’t post for too long.
Depending on how it goes, I might turn that series into something more (and include countries like India, too). Who knows?!

Congratulations! Celebrate – I’ve come to believe rituals are important. You’ve put together a great blog and body of work 🙂

Yes, most definitely. I don’t like to label myself as a creature of habit, but I kind of am. Rituals make everything that much more special.

It’s really cool to still be able to interact with the people you met years ago. Even though most people just step into the shadows, some still remain, which makes for a great adventure!

Wow, three years! In a couple of weeks it will be 1 year for me on The Inquisitive Inkpot…Your eloquence, sincerity, and sardonic humor are a rare combination, and I’m so glad we ran into each other. 🙂

The 1st anniversary is HUGE. Statistics say that not many people make it to that mark. When May rolls around, I get a little prouder. Blogging has been an awesome outlet for me and a great way to connect with phenomenal people like yourself!

Hey, it was my 3rd blogging anniversary a few weeks ago too! Congrats!!!!! I think the country posts will be interesting. I wonder if you’ll talk about mine 😉 let’s see if you can pin me on the map. If you do, I’ll let you know!

Thank you! And happy blogging anniversary to you, too!!!
Since the plan is to post about countries that have not been to my blog, I probably won’t feature your country since you’ve been to my blog before. But who knows, I might continue the series after the initial project is done.
I can’t remember exactly but I think South America. Columbia maybe?

Hello and congratulations an sailing with WordPress for three years now..
I have no idea how I found your blog but I am absolutely thrilled that I did.
I look forward to your posts you always have a very interesting spin going on and the time you take to set the tone of the post before delving into it.
Fun with countries sounds like a fascinating concept hmm maybe I might find inspiration been trying to figure out how to draw out some bloggers so will be here to learn.

Funny that you mentioned that because that’s exactly what I’ve been wondering about – How have we discovered one another? I have no idea, but I am happy it happened! I know it sounds weird, but you have the most exotic blog I follow. I don’t just mean that you are from Zim, but that you write about stuff related to Zim culture. Always so interesting.
Stay tuned!

Good to have you.
Well, that’s a great question. I just search for the country and hope the person writing about it is there.

Congrats! I’m super curious about which countries you aren’t able to get views in. My blog is definitely more popular in certain places. I have theories on why that is which range from the time that I post things to the cultural sense of humor in certain places of the world, but I really don’t know.

North Korea for example. I have no idea why no one from there visits my blog. It makes me sad.

Happy blogiversary, Sam! I hope this next year is easier! I agree, the new feature sounds cool. Do you know what your first country is going to be yet, or is it a surprise? I don’t really look at the map tbh. I recently reached readers from Mexico (I’d never had before) and that made me happy bc I got fam there.

Yes, I do know which country will be first. I already started a post but it’s taking longer than expected to compose the entire thing and publish it. Patience…
It’s so exciting when you see a new country among your visitors. Too bad that not everyone leaves a comment. I would love to interact with them, too!

😄 haha, take your time! you’re right, not everyone leaves a comment. I hadn’t seen how the comment section is a way to get to know people from around the world. Thanks for that insight! For me, it was more like to comment on the writing, I’d never seen it like traveling.
