Crouching behind a bush, Oscar looked at his watch – 10.55. With anticipation, he peered around the corner. Five more minutes and delicious chicken nuggets and fries would be his.
Like clockwork – at 11 – Alexa came out the back door and whistled.
“I heard today is your birthday.” She handed Oscar a bigger-than-usual brown bag.
Aside from the weekly staples, the bag also contained a slice of chocolate cake.
Oscar smiled at the thought of the joy he would see in his little sister’s eyes. “Best gift ever.”
Church food was good, but this was going to be A FEAST!

so may questions and hauntingly poetic… just finished reading a story about a homeless lad which made me take stock on the things I take for granted like a roof on my head and delectable treats

Heartening story of kindness and the food was not just for him but also his sister! Birthday Cake included. Shows how some will go that extra mile in life.

Thank you. Some people will give everything they have for other while others have excess and won’t. It’s sad.

Nice. Someone needing and getting a meal, served with love in a brown bag. I was hungry too.

Thanks, Darnell!
I thought I’d switch up the length a bit.
“love in a brown bag” – I love that. Would make for a great title.

That Oscar, what a nice boy. I do know kids who are like that. I also know the other kind. Great story that made me smile.
