No prompt today. Just a story that popped into my head randomly.
***
He stepped on the gas pedal and the car lurched forward. Melody fixed her gaze on the brightly lit brake lights of the car in front of them. Her body tensed up as she held her breath. This time they were going to crash for sure.
“I should have insisted on driving,” she thought, as she did every time he drove like a maniac., but then she would relent. After all, she enjoyed not having to drive. Was she about to pay the ultimate price for this unnecessary luxury of being chauffeured around?
Inches before connecting with the car in front of him, Andrew was able to change lanes and he continued on driving as if nothing had happened.
“What if there was a car in the other lane?” Melody asked and took in a deep breath.
“But there wasn’t,” Andrew spat out. “I wasn’t going to get stuck behind the idiot who cannot turn without grinding to a halt,” he added after a brief pause.
Melody sighed. She hated his inability to own up to his errors and his need to defend his stupidest of actions.
“I almost had a heart attack,” she remarked. “I’ve asked you not to do this so many times.”
“Get a hold of yourself and calm down. I’ve got this. OK?” Andrew retorted.
Melody placed her hand on the back of Andrew’s head and slammed it against the steering wheel. Crackling could be heard. “Probably the nasal cartilage,” Melody thought with amusement right before slamming his face against the steering wheel again.
And again.
And again.
But then they would definitely crash. She had to wait until they were safely parked.
“OK,” she replied mischievously.

Thanks, Em! I find it fascinating what we think about but don’t dare to speak out loud about.

Quick proofreading blart–brake lights, not break lights.
And that really caught me off guard. I was completely not expecting the sudden violence, and then back to normal.
I wouldn’t trust her mischievous smile, though. : )

Hahahah this reminds me of Tarantino’s 2007 movie Grindhouse. Sooo, what sparked this? Roadrage? 😀

Roadrage is fun to ponder. I can be quite the devil behind the wheel but then I see others around me. Better. Or worse. And I wonder what everyone’s motivation is, etc.
