#Bloganuary – Day 14 – How to overcome an obstacle.

Write about a challenge you faced and overcame.

January 14th prompt

When I was younger, I used to play with my toys in the bathroom as Mom took baths. She liked to relax in a cloud of bubbles, with a glass of wine and a good book. Whenever she finished a chapter, she would playfully splash me with water.

I hated that. It made me feel wet and cold, but seeing her enjoy it so much, made me wonder what I was missing out on. When Lilly – my sister – came along, Mom got a kitty pool for the backyard and the two of them played in it for hours.

One summer day, I dipped my toes in. It was as horrible as I had predicted it to be, but I knew I could not give up if I wanted to become Mom’s favorite again. So, the following day, I went back in and even had some fun.

And they say cats are afraid of water…

Stay golden,

  1. Post about childhood memories often make me well up. It’s the mom genes – they never turn off. It’s so annoying. I’m sorry about the childhood hydrophobia: I hope it’s improved. Oddly, my son was similar. He struggled until age three.

  2. Oh my! hahahaha! I was just like your mom to my daughter. We would take a bath together and play with the bubbles. Well, I don’t play with her anymore with bubbles but she gives me a bath once every week to scrub my back and legs. Reminiscing her younger days. Thanks for this.
