Derrick the Golden Onion found himself on the counter with Red Onion and Shallot.
“Why aren’t you bowing to me?” he puffed his chest.
Red and Shallot looked at one another in confusion.
“I am the regal Golden Onion.”
“You can be whoever you want to be, but you’ll end up in a skillet, anyway,” Shallot shrugged.
Derrick shook his head. He would rule forever.
Shallot was chopped up and tossed into the skillet on Sunday.
His confidence grew.
Red went on Tuesday.
Derrick was victorious.
Until Friday.
“Color and shape really don’t mean anything?!” he realized at last.

This reminds me of the movie “the last Emperor “ (of China (based on a true story))).
He was even too holy for his feet to touch the ground and even as a small boy, he ruled over everyone. But the war and conflicts happened and he ended… well, I won’t spoil the end in case you want to watch the movie (which I would recommend)… but pretty much in the skillet like red and shallot.
I simply love this story. It’s much deeper than most might initially think.
Another masterpiece!

I might have to check that movie out. Sounds interesting
Thank you for reading!
When I finished writing it, I actually thought of you and how this could make for a short story in CG! Glad you liked it!

I kept imagining the golden with a RoyalTea type of face expression!
Shall we include it? I should be able to draw onions 😄

I love the double meanings you’ve put into this, and the last line tops it off beautifully. When I saw the prompt I thought ‘this is going to be a really tough one… poor Goldie’ and I shook my head sadly. But you’ve created a perfect story here! I give it 100%.

Ah yes, I remember that you like reading the prompt before the piece itself. Is that your routine or does the order in which you read my CW differ?
I’m very pleased to hear that you approve. It did take me a moment to think of something in response to this prompt.

Yep, I always read the prompt before the story. It seems like the natural thing to do, like reading the title or the introduction first.

A profound tale indeed…. reminded me of that story about at the end of the game all the chess pieces end up in the same box.
